Origin & History
From Greek phōnē ‘sound, voice’ + -graph ‘something written/recorded’; popularized in English after Thomas Edison’s invention (1877).
গ্রিক phōnē (অর্থ ‘শব্দ/কণ্ঠস্বর’) + -graph (অর্থ ‘লিখিত/রেকর্ডিত বস্তু’) থেকে গঠিত; ১৮৭৭ সালে থমাস এডিসনের আবিষ্কারের পর ইংরেজিতে শব্দটি ব্যাপকভাবে প্রচলিত হয়।
Definition
A phonograph is an early sound machine that records audio onto a grooved surface (first on wax cylinders, later on discs) and plays it back by tracing the grooves with a needle (stylus).
ফোনোগ্রাফ হলো একটি প্রাচীন শব্দ-যন্ত্র যা খাঁজকাটা পৃষ্ঠে (প্রথমে মোমের সিলিন্ডার, পরে ডিস্কে) শব্দ রেকর্ড করে এবং সূচ/স্টাইলাস দিয়ে খাঁজ অনুসরণ করে সেই শব্দ আবার বাজিয়ে শোনায়।
