From German Studenten slang Philister (“non-student; outsider”), ultimately from Biblical Philistines (the ancient people), later generalized to mean a person hostile to culture and refined tastes.
জার্মান ছাত্রসমাজের কথ্য ‘Philister’ (অছাত্র/বাইরের লোক) থেকে; এর শিকড় বাইবেলের ‘Philistines’ (প্রাচীন একটি জাতি) শব্দে। পরে অর্থ প্রসারিত হয়ে শিল্প-সংস্কৃতিবিমুখ, রুচিহীন বা সংস্কৃতির প্রতি বিরূপ ব্যক্তিকে বোঝাতে ব্যবহৃত হয়।
