From Greek phil(o)- ‘loving’ + Hellēn ‘Greek’ (Hellas = Greece), used in English especially from the 18th–19th centuries for supporters of Greek culture and, later, Greek independence.
গ্রিক phil(o)- ‘ভালবাসা/অনুরাগ’ + Hellēn ‘গ্রিক’ (Hellas = গ্রিস) থেকে উদ্ভূত; ইংরেজিতে বিশেষত ১৮–১৯শ শতকে গ্রিক সংস্কৃতির অনুরাগী এবং পরে গ্রিক স্বাধীনতার সমর্থকদের বোঝাতে ব্যবহৃত হয়েছে।
Definition
Philhellenic describes a person, policy, movement, or attitude that is strongly favorable toward Greece—its people, language, history, or culture, and historically it often refers to support for Greek independence in the 19th century.
