ল্যাটিন pertināx (‘অটল/একগুঁয়ে’) থেকে, যা pertinēre (‘টিকে থাকা/অবিচল থাকা/লেগে থাকা’) ধাতু থেকে উদ্ভূত; ইংরেজি pertinacious শব্দে -ly যোগ হয়ে pertinaciously গঠিত।
