লাতিন *permutare* (“সম্পূর্ণভাবে বদলানো/অদলবদল করা”) থেকে, মধ্যযুগীয়/নব্য-লাতিন *permutabilis* (“যা বদলানো/অদলবদল করা যায়”) হয়ে, পরে ইংরেজি -ity প্রত্যয় যোগে বিমূর্ত বিশেষ্য হিসেবে গঠিত।

Permutability is the property that items, terms, or operations can be swapped or rearranged—often without affecting the outcome (e.g., in mathematics, whether changing the order of elements or operations leaves the result the same).
পারমিউটেবিলিটি হলো এমন একটি বৈশিষ্ট্য যেখানে বস্তু, পদ, বা ক্রিয়াকে অদলবদল/পুনর্বিন্যাস করা যায়—অনেক ক্ষেত্রে এতে ফলাফল অপরিবর্তিত থাকে (যেমন গণিতে, উপাদান বা ক্রিয়ার ক্রম বদলালেও ফল একই থাকে কি না)।
