From Latin paenultimus (paene ‘almost’ + ultimus ‘last’), via French/learned borrowing, meaning ‘almost last’ or ‘next to last’.
লাতিন paenultimus থেকে এসেছে (paene ‘প্রায়’ + ultimus ‘শেষ’), ফরাসি/পাণ্ডিত্যপূর্ণ ধারার মাধ্যমে ইংরেজিতে প্রবেশ করে; অর্থ ‘প্রায় শেষ’ বা ‘শেষের আগের’।
Definition
Penultimate means the item, event, or position that comes immediately before the last one in an ordered series (e.g., the penultimate chapter is the chapter before the final chapter).
Penultimate বলতে কোনো ধারাবাহিকতা বা ক্রমের মধ্যে শেষটির ঠিক আগেরটি—অর্থাৎ শেষের আগের অবস্থান/বস্তু/ঘটনাকে বোঝায় (যেমন, penultimate chapter মানে শেষ অধ্যায়ের ঠিক আগের অধ্যায়)।
