From Middle English peal/pele, related to Old French (forms like) apel/peel meaning a loud sound or peal of bells; ultimately from Latin appello (“to address/call”), developing the sense of a ringing call.

Definition
Pealed means “rang out loudly in a clear, repeated sound,” especially used for bells, laughter, or thunder; it is the past form of peal. It is sometimes confused with peeled (past of peel), but pealed normally relates to sound.
