লাতিন 'pacificus' (অর্থ ‘শান্তি-স্থাপনকারী’) থেকে এসেছে; যা 'pax' (শান্তি) + 'facere' (করা/তৈরি করা) শব্দদ্বয় থেকে গঠিত, পরে ইংরেজি প্রত্যয় '-ism' যুক্ত হয়েছে; ১৯–২০ শতকে রাজনৈতিক ও নৈতিক আলোচনায় শব্দটি বেশি প্রচলিত হয়।
Definition
Pacificism is the principle or movement that rejects war and the use of violence, advocating peaceful methods such as negotiation, nonviolent resistance, and diplomacy to resolve conflicts.
প্যাসিফিসিজম হলো এমন একটি নীতি বা আন্দোলন যা যুদ্ধ ও সহিংসতার ব্যবহারকে প্রত্যাখ্যান করে এবং বিরোধ মেটাতে আলোচনার মাধ্যমে সমাধান, অহিংস প্রতিরোধ ও কূটনীতির মতো শান্তিপূর্ণ পদ্ধতির পক্ষে কথা বলে।
