Overwriting is the process of writing new information onto a place (such as a file, disk sector, document, or text) where older information already exists, thereby replacing or destroying the previous content; it can be accidental (saving over a file) or intentional (securely overwriting data to prevent recovery).
Overwriting হলো এমন একটি প্রক্রিয়া যেখানে নতুন তথ্য এমন একটি স্থানে (যেমন ফাইল, ডিস্ক সেক্টর, নথি বা লেখা) লেখা হয় যেখানে আগে থেকেই তথ্য ছিল; ফলে পুরোনো বিষয়বস্তু প্রতিস্থাপিত বা নষ্ট হয়ে যায়—এটি ভুলবশতও হতে পারে (একটি ফাইলের উপর সেভ করা) বা ইচ্ছাকৃতও হতে পারে (তথ্য পুনরুদ্ধার ঠেকাতে নিরাপদভাবে ডেটা ওভাররাইট করা)।
