'cast out' (বহিষ্কার/বাইরে ফেলে দেওয়া) ক্রিয়া-প্রয়োগ থেকে 'outcast' শব্দটি গড়ে ওঠে; অর্থ দাঁড়ায় যে ব্যক্তি বহিষ্কৃত বা প্রত্যাখ্যাত। ইংরেজিতে ১৪–১৫শ শতক থেকে এর ব্যবহার পাওয়া যায়।
Definition
Outcasts are people who are deliberately pushed out, rejected, or treated as not belonging to a community, group, or society, often because of prejudice, poverty, behavior, or social status.
Outcasts বলতে সেইসব মানুষকে বোঝায় যাদের ইচ্ছাকৃতভাবে কোনো সমাজ/দল/সম্প্রদায় থেকে বাদ দেওয়া হয় বা ‘অন্তর্ভুক্ত নয়’ বলে আচরণ করা হয়—অনেক সময় পক্ষপাত, দারিদ্র্য, আচরণ, বা সামাজিক অবস্থানের কারণে।
