Formed from other + -ness; recorded from the 16th–17th century, later used widely in philosophy and social theory to discuss ‘the Other’.
other + -ness থেকে গঠিত; ১৬–১৭ শতক থেকে ব্যবহারের নজির পাওয়া যায়, পরে দর্শন ও সমাজতত্ত্বে ‘অপর’ ধারণা বোঝাতে ব্যাপকভাবে ব্যবহৃত হয়।
Definition
Otherness refers to the condition of being perceived as different from what is familiar or from a dominant group; it can describe both the quality of difference and the resulting sense of separation.
Otherness বলতে পরিচিত বা প্রভাবশালী গোষ্ঠী থেকে আলাদা/ভিন্ন হিসেবে বিবেচিত হওয়ার অবস্থা বোঝায়; এটি পার্থক্যের গুণগত দিক এবং সেই পার্থক্য থেকে তৈরি হওয়া বিচ্ছিন্নতার অনুভূতিও বোঝাতে পারে।
