লাতিন oppidum শব্দ থেকে উদ্ভূত, যার অর্থ ‘শহর/দুর্গবেষ্টিত শহর’; আধুনিক প্রত্নতত্ত্বে লৌহযুগের বড় দুর্গবেষ্টিত বসতি, বিশেষত কেল্টদের লা তেন সংস্কৃতির স্থান বোঝাতে ব্যবহৃত হয়।
Definition
An oppidum was a major fortified town or large defended settlement in Iron Age Europe, especially linked to Celtic peoples of the La Tène culture; such sites often had ramparts, gates, and served as centers of trade, craft, and administration.
অপ্পিডাম বলতে লৌহযুগীয় ইউরোপের একটি বড়, দুর্গবেষ্টিত নগর/বসতি বোঝায়, যা বিশেষ করে কেল্টদের লা তেন (La Tène) সংস্কৃতির সঙ্গে যুক্ত; এ ধরনের স্থানে প্রাচীর/মাটি-ঢিবি (র্যাম্পার্ট), ফটক থাকত এবং বাণিজ্য, কারুশিল্প ও প্রশাসনিক কেন্দ্র হিসেবে কাজ করত।
