Origin & History
From Middle English nostril, from Old English nosþyrl (‘nose-hole’), formed from nosu (‘nose’) + þyrel (‘hole’).
মধ্য ইংরেজি nostril থেকে; পুরাতন ইংরেজি nosþyrl (‘নাকের ছিদ্র’) থেকে, যা nosu (‘নাক’) + þyrel (‘ছিদ্র’) অংশদ্বয়ে গঠিত।
Definition
Nostrils are the two openings on a human or animal nose (or a bird’s beak) through which air moves into and out of the nasal passages; they also help with smelling and filtering air.
নাসারন্ধ্র হলো মানুষের বা প্রাণীর নাকের (বা পাখির ঠোঁটের) দুইটি ছিদ্র, যার মাধ্যমে বাতাস নাসাপথে ঢোকে ও বের হয়; এগুলো গন্ধ নেওয়া এবং বাতাস ছেঁকে নেওয়াতেও সাহায্য করে।
