Origin & History
Formed in English by the prefix non- (“not”) + Mapuche (name of an Indigenous people of southern Chile and Argentina; from Mapudungun mapu “land” + che “people”).
ইংরেজিতে non- (“নয়/অ-”) উপসর্গ + Mapuche (দক্ষিণ চিলে ও আর্জেন্টিনার আদিবাসী জনগোষ্ঠীর নাম; মাপুদুংগুন ভাষায় mapu “ভূমি” + che “মানুষ”) থেকে গঠিত।
Definition
Used to describe people, communities, institutions, or practices that are outside Mapuche identity or culture (e.g., non-Mapuche residents, non-Mapuche perspectives). It is commonly used in anthropological, historical, and political contexts in Chile and Argentina.
