From New Latin nephritis, from Greek nephritīs (νόσος) ‘(disease) of the kidneys’, from nephrós ‘kidney’.

Definition

Nephritis is inflammation of one or both kidneys, often due to infection, autoimmune disease, or drug/toxin effects; it can impair kidney function and may cause blood or protein in urine, swelling, and high blood pressure.
