Definition

A naiad is (1) in Greek mythology, a female nature spirit (nymph) linked to fresh water such as springs and streams; (2) in entomology, the water-dwelling immature stage of a dragonfly or damselfly; (3) in botany, an aquatic plant of the genus Najas.
