American motorsport term formed from front + stretch (meaning a long straight section of track), used by the mid-20th century in oval-track racing to contrast with backstretch.

Definition
The frontstretch is the main straightaway on a racing circuit directly in front of the spectators and pit/garage area, often where cars accelerate past the grandstands and where the start and finish are located.
