Origin & History
Formed within a proposed gender-neutral pronoun system (e/eir/em/eirs/eirself), created as an alternative to gendered pronouns like ‘he/him/his/himself’ and ‘she/her/hers/herself’, mainly in queer, nonbinary, and inclusive-language communities from the late 20th century onward.
