Definition

Dikpala refers to a class of directional guardian deities in Indian religious and mythological traditions; each dikpala is assigned a specific direction (such as east, south, west, north, and sometimes the intermediate directions) and is invoked as a protector of that quarter of the cosmos.

দিকপাল বলতে ভারতীয় ধর্মীয় ও পৌরাণিক ঐতিহ্যে দিক-রক্ষক দেবতাদের একটি শ্রেণিকে বোঝায়; প্রতিটি দিকপাল একটি নির্দিষ্ট দিকের (যেমন পূর্ব, দক্ষিণ, পশ্চিম, উত্তর এবং অনেক ক্ষেত্রে মধ্যবর্তী দিকসমূহও) অধিপতি/রক্ষক হিসেবে বিবেচিত এবং সেই দিকের সুরক্ষাকারী দেবতা হিসেবে পূজিত বা স্মরণ করা হয়।
