A digenean is a type of parasitic flatworm (fluke) in the subclass Digenea, characterized by a complex life cycle involving a mollusc (often a snail) as an intermediate host and a vertebrate (such as a fish, bird, or mammal) as the final host. Digeneans often inhabit the digestive or other internal organs of their hosts and can cause significant disease.
