From damp (moisture) + proof (“resistant to; preventing”), formed in English by combining the adjective-forming element -proof with damp; commonly used in building terminology from the late 19th–early 20th century.
ইংরেজি damp (আর্দ্রতা/স্যাঁতসেঁতে ভাব) + proof (প্রতিরোধী/রোধ করে) শব্দদ্বয়ের সমাস; -proof প্রত্যয়জাত উপাদান দিয়ে গঠিত। ১৯শ শতকের শেষভাগ থেকে ২০শ শতকের শুরুর দিকে নির্মাণ-সংক্রান্ত পরিভাষায় বেশি প্রচলিত হয়।
