Origin & History
From bark + cloth; the term is recorded in English from the 18th–19th centuries to describe traditional textiles made from beaten tree bark in the Pacific and Africa.
bark (বাকল) + cloth (কাপড়) থেকে গঠিত; ১৮–১৯ শতক থেকে ইংরেজিতে শব্দটি ব্যবহৃত হতে দেখা যায়, বিশেষত প্রশান্ত মহাসাগরীয় ও আফ্রিকার পিটিয়ে তৈরি বাকলজাত ঐতিহ্যবাহী বস্ত্র বোঝাতে।
Definition
Barkcloth is a non-woven fabric traditionally produced by beating and softening the inner bark (bast) of trees such as paper mulberry or fig; it has been used in many Pacific and African cultures for garments, wrapping, and ritual items.
বাকলকাপড় হলো বোনা নয় এমন এক ধরনের কাপড়, যা কাগজ তুঁত বা ডুমুরজাতীয় গাছের ভেতরের বাকল (বাস্ট) পিটিয়ে ও নরম করে তৈরি করা হয়; প্রশান্ত মহাসাগরীয় ও আফ্রিকার নানা সংস্কৃতিতে এটি পোশাক, মোড়ানো এবং আনুষ্ঠানিক/ধর্মীয় কাজে ব্যবহৃত হয়ে এসেছে।
