‘উত্তর’ (দিক/দিশা বোঝাতে) ও ‘দিক’—দুটি সংস্কৃত-উৎপত্তিগত শব্দের সমাস; ‘উত্তর’ শব্দটি সংস্কৃত ‘उत्तर’ থেকে এবং ‘দিক’ শব্দটি সংস্কৃত ‘दिक्/दिश्’ ধাতুগোষ্ঠী থেকে এসেছে
