‘উল্লেখ’ (উল্লিখিত করা/উল্লেখ করা) শব্দের সঙ্গে বিশেষণসূচক প্রত্যয় ‘-্য’ যুক্ত হয়ে ‘উল্লেখ্য’ গঠিত; সংস্কৃতমূল ‘উল্লেখ’/‘উল্লেখ’ ধাতুভিত্তিক ধারণা থেকে বাংলা ব্যবহারে এসেছে
