সংস্কৃত ‘সর্ব’ (সব) + ‘স্ব’ (নিজের/অধিকারভুক্ত) সমাস থেকে ‘সর্বস্ব’—অর্থ ‘যা সম্পূর্ণভাবে নিজের’, পরে ‘সব সম্পদ/সম্বল’ অর্থে ব্যবহৃত
