আরবি ‘سَرْبَرَاه / সর্ভরাহ’ জাতীয় কোনো মূল থেকে নয়; বাংলায় শব্দটি মূলত সংস্কৃত ‘সর্ (সরণ/প্রবাহ)’ + ‘বহ্ (বহন করা)’ ধাতু-সংশ্লিষ্ট ধারণা এবং পরবর্তীতে প্রমিত রূপে ‘সরবরাহ’ (supply/provision) অর্থে প্রতিষ্ঠিত

চাহিদা পূরণের জন্য পণ্য, কাঁচামাল, খাদ্য, সেবা বা অন্যান্য উপকরণ যথাসময়ে ও নির্দিষ্ট স্থানে পৌঁছে দেওয়ার প্রক্রিয়া বা পরিমাণ; ব্যক্তিগত ও ব্যবসায়িক উভয় ক্ষেত্রেই ‘সরবরাহ’ বলতে জোগান দেওয়া এবং মোট জোগানের পরিমাণ—দুই অর্থেই ব্যবহৃত হয়
