বাংলা/সংস্কৃতজাত উপাদান ‘পরি’+‘ত্যাগ’ (ত্যাগ করা) এবং ‘পত্র’ (লিখিত নথি/চিঠি) থেকে গঠিত যৌগিক শব্দ; অর্থাৎ ত্যাগের লিখিত দলিল

কোনো ব্যক্তি বা প্রতিষ্ঠান নির্দিষ্ট কোনো অধিকার/দাবি/স্বত্ব/পদ বা সুবিধা আর গ্রহণ করবে না—এ মর্মে যে লিখিত ঘোষণা বা আইনগত নথি প্রদান করা হয়, তাকে পরিত্যাগপত্র বলা হয়
