সমাজে যেসব মানুষ অর্থনৈতিক, রাজনৈতিক বা সাংস্কৃতিক ক্ষমতার কেন্দ্র থেকে দূরে অবস্থান করে এবং যাদের সুযোগ-সুবিধা ও প্রতিনিধিত্ব তুলনামূলকভাবে কম—তাদেরকে ‘প্রান্তবাসী’ বলা হয়; এই ধরনের মানুষদের সমষ্টিগত অবস্থান বা শ্রেণিবিন্যাসগত স্তরকে ‘প্রান্তবাসী স্তর’ বলা হয়
In society, people who remain away from the centers of economic, political, or cultural power and who have comparatively less access to opportunities and representation are called ‘marginal/peripheral’; the collective position or stratified layer representing such people is termed the ‘marginal layer/peripheral stratum’.
