দেয়াল, ছাদ বা ইট-পাথরের গাঁথুনির ওপর সমতল করা, জোড়া ঢেকে দেওয়া ও সুরক্ষার জন্য চুন-সুরকি বা সিমেন্ট-বালির মিশ্রণ দিয়ে যে প্রলেপ দেওয়া হয়; সেই প্রলেপ বা কাজকেই পলেস্তারা বলা হয়
