Origin & History
শব্দটি ফরাসি/ইংরেজি ‘muslin’ (আগে ইতালীয় ‘mussolina’) থেকে বাংলায় এসেছে; নামটির উৎস মধ্যপ্রাচ্যের ‘মসুল (Mosul)’ এলাকার সঙ্গে ঐতিহাসিকভাবে যুক্ত বলে ধরা হয়, যদিও বাংলার ঢাকাই মসলিনের নিজস্ব ঐতিহ্য রয়েছে
The Bengali term comes via French/English ‘muslin’ (earlier Italian ‘mussolina’); the name is historically associated with the Middle Eastern region of Mosul, though Dhakai/Bengal muslin has its own distinct heritage

মসলিন হলো অত্যন্ত সূক্ষ্ম সুতো দিয়ে বোনা হালকা, নরম ও কখনও স্বচ্ছ ধরনের সুতির কাপড়, যা ঐতিহাসিকভাবে ঢাকা ও বাংলার বিভিন্ন অঞ্চলে তৈরি হয়ে বিশ্বজুড়ে খ্যাতি অর্জন করে; শাড়ি, ওড়না, পোশাক ও পর্দাসহ নানা বস্ত্র তৈরিতে ব্যবহৃত হয়
