সংস্কৃত ‘কণ্ঠ’ (গলা/কণ্ঠ) + ‘স্থ’ (অবস্থিত/স্থাপিত) থেকে; অর্থাৎ ‘কণ্ঠে স্থাপিত’, রূপক অর্থে মুখে এমনভাবে বসানো যে অনায়াসে বলা যায়

From Sanskrit ‘कण्ठ (kaṇṭha, throat/voice)’ + ‘स्थ (stha, placed/standing)’; literally ‘placed in the throat/voice’, figuratively meaning memorized so it can be recited easily

কোনো লেখা, কবিতা, সূত্র বা তথ্য বারবার পড়ে এমনভাবে মুখস্থ করে নেওয়া যাতে পরে বই/কাগজ না দেখে নির্ভুলভাবে বলা বা উদ্ধৃত করা যায়
