কার্তিক বলতে সাধারণত (১) বাংলা-হিন্দু পঞ্জিকার মাস ‘কার্তিক’—যা আশ্বিনের পর ও অগ্রহায়ণের আগে পড়ে, এবং (২) পুরাণে কার্তিকেয়/স্কন্দ/মুরুগণ নামে পরিচিত যুদ্ধদেবতাকে বোঝায়
