ফারসি ‘জরীপ/যরীব’ (ভূমি মাপার দড়ি/মাপ) শব্দ থেকে বাংলায় ‘জরিপ’ অর্থে ‘সমীক্ষা/সার্ভে’ হিসেবে ব্যবহৃত

From Persian ‘jarīb/zarīb’ (a measuring rope/measure, especially for land), later used in Bengali to mean ‘survey/surveilling inquiry’
