উঁচু পাহাড়, টিলা বা বাঁধের ধার থেকে জল যখন ধারাবাহিকভাবে নিচে ঝরে পড়ে, সেই পতিত জলের প্রবাহকে ঝরনা বলা হয়; অনেক সময় সাজসজ্জার জন্য তৈরি কৃত্রিম জলধারাকেও ঝরনা বলা হয়
