‘ইতি’ (এখানে ‘এই’/‘এমনি’) + ‘বাচক’ (অর্থবোধক/সূচক) উপাদান থেকে গঠিত; বাংলায় এটি মূলত সংস্কৃত-প্রভাবিত গঠন, এবং আধুনিক ব্যবহারে ইংরেজি ‘positive’-এর অর্থবহ সমার্থক হিসেবে প্রতিষ্ঠিত।

যে ভাবনা, মনোভাব, মতামত, ফলাফল বা প্রতিক্রিয়া গঠনমূলক, আশাবাদী এবং উন্নতির পক্ষে থাকে তাকে ইতিবাচক বলা হয়; গণিত/যুক্তিতে ‘ধনাত্মক’ সংখ্যাও ইতিবাচক।
Something (an idea, attitude, opinion, result, or response) that is constructive, optimistic, and supportive of progress is called positive; in mathematics/logic, a ‘positive’ number is also described as positive.
