‘গুটি’ শব্দটি বাংলা লোকব্যবহারে বহুদিন ধরে প্রচলিত; এর একটি অর্থ ‘ছোট গোলাকার দানা/গাঁট’ এবং আরেকটি অর্থ খেলায় ব্যবহৃত ‘ঘুঁটি’। শব্দটির সুনির্দিষ্ট ব্যুৎপত্তি নিশ্চিতভাবে নির্ধারিত নয়, তবে ইন্দো-আর্য ভাষাগোষ্ঠীর দৈনন্দিন শব্দভাণ্ডারের সাথে সম্পর্কিত বলে ধরা হয়।
The word ‘গুটি’ has long been used in Bengali vernacular; one sense is ‘small round grain/lump’ and another is ‘a game piece/token’. Its exact etymology is not firmly established, though it is generally considered part of the everyday Indo-Aryan lexical stock.
Definition
গুটি বলতে সাধারণত ছোট, গোলাকার দানা বা কণাকে বোঝায়; আবার শরীরে বসন্ত/হাম/অ্যালার্জি ইত্যাদিতে ওঠা ছোট ছোট দানা বা ফোঁড়াকেও গুটি বলা হয়। এছাড়া দাবা, লুডু, গুটি খেলা ইত্যাদিতে চাল দেওয়ার জন্য ব্যবহৃত ছোট পুঁতি/টোকেনকেও গুটি বলা হয়।
‘গুটি’ commonly means a small, round grain or lump; it also refers to small raised bumps/boils on the skin (e.g., from pox, rash, allergy). In addition, it denotes a game piece/token used to make moves in board games such as chess or ludo.
