বাংলা ‘দাম’ (মূল্য) শব্দের সাথে লোকেটিভ বিভক্তি ‘-এ’ যোগ হয়ে ‘দামে’ রূপটি গঠিত; ‘দাম’ শব্দটি সংস্কৃত ‘দাম’ (মূল্য/দর) থেকে উদ্ভূত বলে ধরা হয়
