‘চা’ শব্দটি চীনা উৎসভিত্তিক (বিশেষত ‘茶’/‘চা’) বাণিজ্যপথে বাংলায় এসেছে; ‘পাতা’ দেশীয় বাংলা শব্দ, অর্থ ‘leaf’; যৌগিকভাবে ‘চা-পাতা’ মানে চা বানানোর পাতা
‘Cha/tea’ ultimately comes from Chinese (notably 茶), entering Bengali via trade routes; ‘pata’ is native Bengali meaning ‘leaf’; together ‘cha-pata’ literally means ‘tea leaves’

চা-গাছের কচি পাতা ও কুঁড়ি সংগ্রহ করে শুকানো/অক্সিডাইজেশন/রোলিং ইত্যাদি প্রক্রিয়ার মাধ্যমে যে পদার্থ তৈরি হয় এবং যা পানীয় হিসেবে চা বানাতে ব্যবহার করা হয়
