‘বিশ্ব’ বলতে সাধারণত সমগ্র সৃষ্টিজগৎ—পৃথিবী, আকাশ, গ্রহ-নক্ষত্র, জীবজগত ও জড় বস্তুসমূহের সমষ্টি—বোঝায়; প্রসঙ্গভেদে এটি ‘পৃথিবী/দুনিয়া’, ‘মানবসমাজ’, বা কোনো বিশেষ ক্ষেত্রের ‘জগৎ’ (যেমন: সাহিত্যজগৎ) অর্থেও ব্যবহৃত হয়
‘বিশ্ব’ commonly denotes the entire cosmos—earth, sky, planets and stars, living beings and inanimate matter; depending on context it can also mean ‘the world/earth’, ‘human society’, or a specific domain such as the ‘world’ of literature
