To romanize means to write words from a non‑Latin script (e.g., Chinese, Japanese, Arabic) using the Latin/Roman alphabet; in historical/religious contexts (often capitalized), it can also mean to bring under Rome’s influence or to make something Roman/Roman Catholic in character.
