From Latin materialis (“of matter”), via Late Latin and French/Medieval Latin forms; + -ist denoting a person who practices or follows a doctrine; materialist (17th–18th c. in philosophical sense), later also in the sense of valuing material possessions.
लैटिन materialis (“पदार्थ से संबंधित”) से, लेट लैटिन और फ्रेंच/मध्यकालीन लैटिन रूपों के माध्यम से; -ist प्रत्यय का अर्थ है किसी विचारधारा/सिद्धांत का अनुयायी; materialist (17वीं–18वीं शताब्दी में दार्शनिक अर्थ में), बाद में भौतिक संपत्ति को महत्व देने वाले अर्थ में भी।
Definition
Materialists are people who place great importance on money, possessions, and physical pleasure, often valuing these over spiritual, moral, or intellectual concerns; in philosophy, materialists hold that reality is fundamentally physical (matter) and that mental or spiritual phenomena arise from material processes.
भौतिकवादी वे लोग हैं जो धन, संपत्ति और भौतिक सुख-सुविधाओं को बहुत अधिक महत्व देते हैं और अक्सर आध्यात्मिक, नैतिक या बौद्धिक बातों से ऊपर रखते हैं; दर्शन में भौतिकवादी वे होते हैं जो मानते हैं कि वास्तविकता मूलतः भौतिक (पदार्थ) है और मानसिक/आध्यात्मिक घटनाएँ भौतिक प्रक्रियाओं से उत्पन्न होती हैं।
