From New Latin Fluor- (from Latin fluere “to flow,” via mineral name fluorite/fluorspar used as a flux) + English chemical suffix -ide; plural fluorides.

Definition
Fluorides are salts or compounds of fluorine, commonly containing the fluoride ion (F−); they occur naturally in minerals and are added in controlled amounts to toothpaste and sometimes drinking water to help prevent tooth decay.
फ्लोराइड फ्लोरीन के लवण या यौगिक होते हैं जिनमें अक्सर फ्लोराइड आयन (F−) होता है; ये प्राकृतिक रूप से कुछ खनिजों में पाए जाते हैं और दाँतों की सड़न (कैविटी) कम करने के लिए नियंत्रित मात्रा में टूथपेस्ट में तथा कभी-कभी पेयजल में भी मिलाए जाते हैं।
