यह शब्द elicit क्रिया से बना है, जिसका मूल लैटिन ēlicere (‘बाहर निकालना/उभारना’) है—ē- (‘बाहर’) + lacere/licit- (‘फुसलाना/लुभाना’)। इसमें कर्ता सूचक प्रत्यय -or जुड़कर elicitor बना और बहुवचन में -s लगकर elicitors।
Definition
Elicitors are agents (such as questions, cues, stimuli, or chemicals) that cause someone or something to produce a response—e.g., eliciting answers in conversation or triggering immune/defense responses in plants.
