Definition
Dipper is chiefly a noun meaning someone or something that dips into liquid; it also names a long-handled cup-shaped utensil used to scoop liquids (a ladle). In zoology, it refers to a small stream-dwelling bird of the genus Cinclus. In other contexts it can mean a headlight dimmer switch (to dip lights), a snack meant to be dipped in sauce, or (informally) a pickpocket; older/occupational uses include a worker who dips steel plates into molten tin.
