From Latin cyma (from Greek kyma, ‘wave’), used in architecture for a wave-like moulding; cymae is a plural/learned form and also appears as a variant for cyme in botanical contexts.
लैटिन ‘cyma’ (ग्रीक ‘kyma’ = ‘लहर’) से; वास्तुकला में लहरदार मोल्डिंग के लिए प्रयुक्त। ‘cymae’ इसका बहुवचन/विद्वत रूप है और कुछ वनस्पति संदर्भों में ‘cyme’ के रूप/पर्याय के रूप में भी मिलता है।
Definition
In architecture, cymae are S-shaped mouldings (ogee profiles) used on cornices, with one concave and one convex curve; in botany, the term can refer to cymes (flower clusters) as a variant/plural usage.
स्थापत्य में ‘cymae’ कॉर्निस/छज्जे पर प्रयुक्त S-आकार (ओजी प्रोफ़ाइल) की मोल्डिंग को कहते हैं, जिसमें एक अवतल और एक उत्तल वक्र होता है; वनस्पति-विज्ञान में यह ‘cyme’ (फूलों के गुच्छे का प्रकार) के लिए भी (रूप/बहुवचन) के तौर पर मिलता है।
