From Middle English complain(en), via Old French complaindre, from Late Latin complangere (“to lament”), from Latin com- (“together”) + plangere (“to strike, beat the breast; lament”).

Definition
“Complains” means (1) says they are unhappy, in pain, or dissatisfied, often repeatedly; (2) reports a problem formally to someone in authority; (3) (rare) makes a creaking/squeaking sound.
