Origin & History
From Middle English via French, from Latin communis (“common”) + place; influenced by the Renaissance practice of collecting notable passages under “common places” (loci communes) in a commonplace book.
मध्य अंग्रेज़ी में फ्रेंच के माध्यम से, लैटिन communis ("सामान्य") + place से; पुनर्जागरण काल की उस परंपरा से भी जुड़ा है जिसमें "कॉमन प्लेसेज़" (loci communes) शीर्षकों के तहत उल्लेखनीय अंश एकत्र करके ‘कॉमनप्लेस बुक’ बनाई जाती थी।
Definition
Commonplaces are ideas, sayings, or observations repeated so often that they lose freshness or originality; in a literary sense they can also mean standard themes or excerpts gathered for reference (a “commonplace book”).
कॉमनप्लेस ऐसे विचार, कहावतें या टिप्पणियाँ हैं जिन्हें इतनी बार दोहराया जाता है कि वे नई या मौलिक नहीं लगतीं; साहित्यिक अर्थ में इसका मतलब सामान्य विषयों या संदर्भ के लिए संकलित अंशों ("कॉमनप्लेस बुक") से भी हो सकता है।
