From Italian “cartone” (“large sheet of paper”), via French “carton”; originally meaning a full-size preparatory drawing for a work of art, later extended to humorous or satirical drawings and then to animation.
इटालियन “cartone” (अर्थ: बड़े आकार का कागज़) से, फ़्रेंच “carton” के माध्यम से; पहले इसका अर्थ कला-कृति के लिए पूर्ण-आकार का प्रारम्भिक रेखाचित्र था, बाद में यह हास्य/व्यंग्य चित्रों और फिर एनिमेशन के अर्थ में भी प्रयोग होने लगा।

“Cartoons” is the plural form of “cartoon” and can mean (1) a funny drawing or a short strip of drawings with a caption, (2) a satirical/political drawing about public figures, (3) an artist’s preliminary sketch, (4) an animated film/TV clip (often humorous), or (5) a simplified diagram used to explain a scientific idea.
