American English back-formation from bartender/bar-keeper, from bar + keep (“to manage, tend”). First recorded in the late 19th century.
अमेरिकी अंग्रेज़ी में bartender/bar-keeper से बना रूप; bar + keep (अर्थ: “प्रबंध करना/देख-रेख करना”) से। इसका प्रयोग पहली बार 19वीं सदी के उत्तरार्ध में दर्ज मिलता है।
Definition
A barkeep is someone who works behind the counter in a bar or pub, serving drinks and often handling payments and customer service; the term can also imply the person who runs the bar.
