Origin & History
Diminutive/affectionate form of ‘aunt’, from Middle English via Old French ‘ante/ainte’, ultimately from Latin ‘amita’ (father’s sister).
‘aunt’ का स्नेहसूचक/छोटा रूप; मध्य अंग्रेज़ी में यह पुरानी फ़्रेंच ‘ante/ainte’ से आया, और मूलतः लैटिन ‘amita’ (पिता की बहन) से विकसित हुआ।
Definition
An informal, often affectionate way to refer to your father’s or mother’s sister, or to the wife of your uncle; in many South Asian contexts, it is also used to address an older woman politely even if she is not related.
'आंटी/चाची/मौसी' कहने का एक अनौपचारिक और अक्सर स्नेहपूर्ण तरीका; यह पिता या माता की बहन, या चाचा/मामा की पत्नी के लिए भी प्रयुक्त होता है; दक्षिण एशियाई संदर्भों में किसी बड़ी उम्र की महिला को सम्मानपूर्वक संबोधित करने के लिए (बिना रिश्तेदारी के भी) बोला जाता है।
